Published data · Edition 1, August 2026
Price bands by machine type, the indicative weekly repayment on each, and the vends per day required to break even — published openly, updated each edition.
The short answer
Across the machine types in this index, indicative Australian purchase prices run from about $1,800 for a refurbished snack unit to $40,000 for a micro market fit-out. At an indicative 10% p.a. over 60 months, those translate to roughly $9 to $200 a week, requiring about 1 to 19 vends per day to break even at $1.50 gross profit per vend.
There is no public dataset in Australia that tells a prospective vending operator what a machine costs, what it costs per week once financed, and how many sales a day it needs to wash its own face. So we published one. This index is compiled from supplier and reseller pricing we see quoted in the Australian market, combined with straightforward repayment arithmetic. It is free to reproduce, in whole or in part, with attribution and a link to this page.

The table pairs each machine type's indicative purchase price with its weekly repayment over 60 months at 10% p.a., and the vends per day needed to cover that repayment at $1.50 gross profit per vend.
Repayments are principal and interest over 60 months at an indicative 10% per annum, no balloon, fees excluded. Breakeven is the finance cost only — it does not include site commission, servicing, fuel, insurance or cashless fees, which together commonly add 20% to 40% on top. Treat the breakeven column as a floor, not a target.

| Drink, new | $7,000 – $13,000 | $34 – $64 | 4 – 7 |
| Combination, new | $9,000 – $16,000 | $44 – $79 | 5 – 8 |

Edition 1, August 2026. Indicative purchase price (ex-GST), 60-month term at 10% p.a., breakeven at $1.50 gross profit per vend.
Budget roughly $1,150 to $3,500 per machine on top of the purchase price for a cashless reader, telemetry, delivery, installation, opening stock and signage.
These are the costs that turn a purchased machine into a trading asset, and they are the ones first-time buyers routinely leave out of the business case. Most can be included in the same finance facility as the equipment.
| Item | Indicative cost |
|---|---|
| Cashless / card reader module | $500 – $1,200 |
| Telemetry & management software | $10 – $30 per month |
| Delivery & installation | $200 – $800 |
| Opening stock | $300 – $900 |
| Signage / wrap | $150 – $600 |
Indicative per-machine set-up costs, Australia 2026
Price bands reflect quoted Australian supplier and reseller ranges as at August 2026. Repayments are calculated as a standard amortising loan at 10% p.a. over 60 months. Breakeven divides the weekly repayment by seven, then by $1.50 gross profit per vend.
We publish the method so the figures can be checked and criticised. Three caveats matter. First, price bands move with the exchange rate and freight, so an edition is a snapshot rather than a standing truth. Second, the 10% rate is an illustrative midpoint, not an offer — actual rates depend on the lender, the asset, the term and the borrower, and we are a referral marketplace, not a lender or broker. Third, $1.50 gross profit per vend is a conservative planning figure; operators with strong wholesale buying and a premium product mix will beat it, and sites with high commission will not.
Where the index touches tax or regulation, we link the primary source rather than paraphrase it. Nothing here is tax advice.

Indicatively, from about $1,800 for a refurbished snack machine to $25,000 or more for a pizza or fresh food unit, with new smart fridges and coolers between $8,800 and $15,000. Add roughly $1,150 to $3,500 per machine for cashless, delivery, installation and opening stock.
On finance alone, a new snack machine at the middle of its price band needs roughly three to five vends a day at $1.50 gross profit per vend. Once servicing, fuel, commission and cashless fees are included, the practical figure is materially higher.
At an indicative 10% p.a. over 60 months, roughly $9 to $22 a week for a refurbished snack unit, $34 to $64 for a new drinks machine, and $69 to $123 for a fresh food machine. Actual repayments depend on the lender's rate and term.
